YMCA Renovated and Expanded Using 3D Laser Scanning Services

Windover Construction Used Innovative Technologies

Windover Construction, a leading construction management and general contracting firm in Beverly, MA, recently completed a renovation and expansion of the Cabot St. YMCA Housing in Beverly, MA using 3D laser scanning services.

The project included the demolition of an existing two-story building and the construction of a new three-story, 32,000-square-foot building that houses 36 units of affordable housing for low- and moderate-income families and individuals.

3D Laser Scanning Services Critical to Project’s Success

The use of 3D scanning services technology allowed Windover to accurately capture the existing conditions of the site and buildings, which facilitated the design and construction of the new building. The use of this 3D laser scanning services technology also helped to minimize disruptions to the surrounding neighborhood during construction.

The completion of this project is a testament to Windover’s commitment to using innovative technologies to deliver high-quality projects on time and on budget. We are proud to have been a part of this important project that will provide much-needed affordable housing in the Beverly community.

Windover also took 3D laser scan models of the exterior and interior of the basement level to create a detailed BIM of existing conditions. The as-built model was used throughout construction to verify that new MEP systems were installed as intended and to confirm that existing building components were not disturbed. This process helped avoid potential problems and delays, and ensuring that the project was completed on time and within budget.

The Windover team also used BIM to create a virtual model of the new addition, which allowed the construction team to better visualize the work that needed to be done. This helped them to plan and execute the construction process more efficiently.

Additionally, the use of BIM allowed the construction team to identify potential problems and make changes to the design before construction began. This helped to avoid potential delays and cost overruns.

BIM was also used to create a virtual model of the existing building, which helped the construction team to better understand the existing conditions. This information was used to create a more accurate schedule for the construction process. Additionally, the use of BIM helped to improve the coordination between the construction team and the architects.

The use of BIM allowed Windover to save time and money by avoiding potential problems and delays. Additionally, the use of BIM improved the coordination between the construction team and the architects. The project was completed on time and within budget.
