MR. Stretchy?
Sticks and stones may break my bones, so I am glad that I have a 3D printer that I can make myself a flexible bone. Does that seem stretching it a bit? Well, it shouldn’t seem too far fetched because it seems that 3D scanning services and 3D printing services are really pushing the innovation to the max. Scientists have found a way to make a hyper elastic bone that has a flexible property to it. That sounds awesome. Imagine if I could have all of my bones replaced and become a Stretch Armstrong. Actually that’s not quite what is happening here.
Make it Bendy
While it may not be something amazing like you would see in a science fiction movie, it is still quite amazing what they can do with 3D scanning services and 3D printing services. What the scientists have done is taken a hydroxyapatite, which is a calcium that is found in the bones and combined it together with a polymer. The results were quite amazing. The material, no matter how you press it always returns to its original shape. What they did was place this material in a spot where the bone needed to grow back, and the results were beyond what they had imagined. The actual bone material started to grow in and around the synthetic materials. The end result was that it had an elastic property to it.
I think we have something
I don’t think that it is hard to see how it will benefit people if it can pass human trials. The fact that it can help people grow back a bone stronger and more flexible will do amazing things for replacement surgery, and it could even be used for bone lengthening if you think you need to do that. It will be great for athletes who break bones. With this technology, they can have their bones healed and also have it grow back more flexible. Imagine a football player who breaks his shin bone on the field. He could have it healed with this material and it would probably be a little bit better that it was originally.
In conclusion, it seems that 3D scanning services and 3D printing services are always coming up with more and more mind-blowing ways to make things better, faster and cheaper. And in this case, 3D printing is looking at ways to make our bodies stay as healthy as possible. No bones about it. If this is a a reality, then I just might my break a bone so that I might replace it with a flexible one.
