Here we discuss five digital twin options that you can choose from, and some characteristics of each. It should be noted that people have different definitions of the phrase “digital twin”, and our definition may run afoul of some of the purists out there.  In general we consider this to be an online multiuser environment that provides a navigable 3D representation of an environment. It also contains links, tags, labels, etc. that show or link to information about objects in the digital twin world.  can be There are strengths with each of these options, and it is not our place to say which is best, only to help you decide which is best for you.

NavVis Ivion

This powerful platform naturally works best with data captured from a NavVis scanner. These digital twins are replete with many photos. The Point of Interest capability is extremely flexible, allowing embedding or linking to many types of data including live feeds. The Crop and Download function is a powerful tool for grabbing a point cloud snippet.

Leica Reality Cloud Studio

This software does a fantastic job of rendering colorful point clouds with great clarity. It’s made by the people who build Leica scanners, so you know it is robust. They are constantly adding features, so we feel this is one to watch. Seamless integration with Register360 for Leica scanner users. Cost is reasonable as well.

Matterport

Matterport is known for its beautiful photos. If you want a digital twin that is visually stunning, this is the one for you. It’s also quite economical to purchase the hardware to capture your first digital twin, and pay for the hosting which won’t be much. If you plan on taking your data somewhere else, or need high accuracy, Matterport might not be the best choice.

Autodesk Tandem

Tandem is a platform that hosts CAD models such as ones created in Autodesk Revit. The Digital Twin permits users to navigate and explore these CAD models using only a browser. Tandem has many of the features as the others, but is CAD based so the realistic color scans and panoramic images are not included here.

There are other digital twin platforms, but these four are all good options depending on your needs.
