3D Laser Scanning Services Unveils Historical Marker
To commemorate Dr. Jose Rizal’s 125th year of martyrdom, the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) hosted a virtual news conference on Dec. 28, 2021, in conjunction with the installation of the historical marker and 3D-printed Rizal monument at the DoST campus on Dec. 30, 2021. 3D laser scanning services and printers have been used to create life-like statues and monuments and even preserve older monuments.
Prof. Fortunato de la Pea, secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, delivered a message on Rizal as a Filipino scientist, emphasizing the hero’s life and legacy as a rationalist, which must be remembered to motivate us to be more focused on advanced study and technology. In celebration of Rizal’s death anniversary, a series of webinars about him will begin in March 2022 and run through March 2022.
The Advanced Manufacturing Center of the Department of Science and Technology’s Metals Industry Research and Development Center (DoST-MIRDC) was the state-of-the-art facility where the Rizal monument was made utilizing 3D printing.
