What is a 3D Model?

A 3D Model is a 3D digital representation of a real-work object or space. The 3D digital representation can be in many file formats. Some formats are vendor-neutral and are intended to maximize interoperability, such as STP, IGES STL and X_B. Other formats are proprietary to a particular vendor, such as Solidworks .SLDPRT. The process of creating a 3D model is termed “3D Modeling” where we take your real-world objects and capture their as-built dimensions with high accuracy. This captured data passed through many forms, often starting as a point cloud. The final result in the process is the 3D model in your desired format for use in your applications.

Why do I need a 3D model?

3D models have a multitude of purposes such as: manufacturing, reverse engineering, animations and visualizations, product design enhancements, inspections, comparative FEA or CFD analysis, 3D printing, part reproduction, and many more.

How can I get a 3D model?

Give us a call and describe our project to us. We can assist with on-site 3D scanning or in-house scanning if you send your part to us. Once we have obtained a thorough scan, we can generate the 3D model in your desired format.
