Using 3D Laser Scanning Services to Study Chimps

Helps Back Up Observations

In some areas of the Republic of The Congo, certain species of chimpanzees are endangered. The Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) is responsible for studying their habitats and identifying why they are becoming endangered. Using 3D laser scanning services, they can study the habitats, observe the chimps, and help collect data they would never see in person. In addition, it’s a way to back up other evidence and collaborate with the observations each researcher collects.

For this project, they use drones and LiDAR to gather information over and through the habitats without disrupting the chimps. The information they collect will evaluate how nests are created and gather information on each chimp. All of this information will help create forest monitoring systems in the future.

This group will collaborate with local partners from the UK and organizations like Leicester University’s QR Global Challenges Research Fund. The Republic of The Congo is considered dangerous. Therefore, it is essential to collect accurate information to help save animal lives.

Who else uses 3D laser scanning services?

Many researchers in various fields are now using LiDAR because it helps collect detailed information that would never have been seen otherwise. In addition, it is being used to help observe other animals and even study humans. As a result, many projects are being done that have astounded us.

  • Researchers are using 3D laser scanning services to study the rainforest in Brazil to understand tree mortality.
  • Researchers are using this technology to understand the slums in Rio De Janeiro. In addition, it helps researchers understand urban morphology.
  • Doctors are using this tool to study the human body and find medical problems before affecting the person.
  • Researchers are using this to study rhino habitats and create virtual reality for other people worldwide to study.

Many projects are being done, and many more will occur in the next few years. 3D laser scanning is evolving rapidly and encouraging all researchers and scientists to think outside the box when observing new habitats and animals.

How is it changing our society?

We see things change rapidly in our society. It is not only helping us analyze habitats; it is also helping with where humans are located. This technology is helping us build homes and understand the structures of our society differently. On top of that, 3D laser scanning services are the ultimate way to collect and save information for future generations. It allows them to see virtually how everything is as it was being scanned and more. In the future, if anyone is trying to gather information, they can go through files and create a virtual reality 3D print of the data. No data will ever be lost again.

Final thoughts

There is no doubt that 3D laser scanning services will help habitats prosper instead of letting an area die. We will understand precisely what is engendering a species and put a stop to it. This technology is proving to be a lifesaver and is now helping save animals and even our planet. We will see more groups adopt this tool to advance their projects further.
