A Few Practical Tips for 3D Laser Scanning in the Rain

We need our best for the fight using 3d laser scanning

No one likes a rainy day. The rain cancels games, slows down traffic, ruins picnics and fishing, and delays our work! But there are times when the show must go on.  When we have a deadline to meet, “get it done” is the only thing on the menu, and that serves up nicely with a little “rain or shine”. That is the case sometimes when working in 3D laser scanning services. So what do we do when we have to finish a project and it starts to rain? We get up and do it! So, if we are going to “just do it” like we’ve all been advertising on our shirts, it would be a good idea to be a little prepared. Here are a few practical tips that can help any scanner who has a job to do in the rain.

Precision is the key when 3d laser scanning

There are some things that we can do before we ever even set foot outside the door to do some 3D laser scanning services. The first thing is to take a little preparatory action before-hand. It is the same concept as having an umbrella on hand in case you need it. No one ever plans to be caught in the rain. A man who is prepared for it never does get CAUGHT in the rain. So it’s smart to have some rain gear ready before it happens. Weather changes fast and one day you’ll need it. The second things is to checkout the weather forecast before you go. If we aren’t in the habit of checking the daily weather forecast, we are the guy most likely to be surprised by the rain. Of course the weather guy is wrong a lot, but his guess is better than you not even thinking about it.  Thirdly, if we do get caught in the rain, we shouldn’t rush things if we don’t have to. Rain comes and goes. During a storm, the rain often falls in waves. It will pour down pretty hard and then lets up a little. It’s a good idea to wait for those breaks in the rain before we engage our scanning.

Here is the Game plan

Another good thing to keep in mind is that its not about just being a hero and braving the rain droplets; it is about getting a good scan and keeping our equipment in good running order. So the next thing to remember is that our equipment is expensive, and we don’t want to do anything that might void the warranty. If buying a new camera because of water damage is going to cost more than the job makes, it might be good to just close shop take the whole operation to Dunkin Donuts.  It will depend on the situation. Some jobs are more important than others. The last thing to keep in mind is that working in the rain is going to need extra time to do some cleanup work. There is going to be a bit of “junk” in the scan just because of the rain, so we must be prepared for that when doing 3D scanning.

All in all, The day is going to come when we are probably going to have to deal with the elements, and so it is a good idea to be as prepared as possible.  That is the way it goes in the 3D Laser Scanning services.
