Should Augmented Reality be used in Schools?

Augmented reality is unlocking and creating layers of digital information right above the physical world in which we live. And, it’s changing the realm of education because what started out as something ‘technically cool’ has become a way to engage the learners like never before. In the coming years, AR in education is likely to revolt the old learning procedures and make classroom teaching more transformational and engaging. Today, education is not limited to just reading books and vomiting the same during the exam. Education has taken a leap, and it’s incomplete without creativity.  You can easily redefine the learning space in your school by imbibing AR in every aspect of education.  Also, AR is supporting education in a way that was previously impossible. From viewing the events of a historical war in a timeline format to modeling objects – AR has become an indispensable part of education.

If you’re looking to give Harry Potter like education to your children, AR is your one-stop destination.

Augmented Reality Simplifies abstract concepts

Augmented reality renders geometrical shapes or anatomy in 3D models, thereby inversing the abstract contracts in visual models. When difficult concepts are made easy, the learning curve automatically witnesses an upward trend and your kid to find alternative ways of integrating the theoretical knowledge into real concepts. The entire learning process is intuitive and interesting.  For instance, a science teacher integrates AR in his lectures to show a 3D model of the teeth and show the working of the human jaw. It increases the understanding and creates a visual learning atmosphere.

Fosters intellectual growth

Born in the digital era, the millennial generation is fascinated by gadgets, gizmos, and anything that deals with technology. When you incorporate AR in your teaching opens up a new horizon for the students who discover their unknown passion and critically think about the world around them. When students visual their learning, it fosters their intellectual growth. This environment creates a complete learning cycle, and the students retain the knowledge for a longer period of time. Live history, play with the math and breathe science with augmented reality.

Deepens understanding through interactive books

AR books are known for providing in-depth knowledge of a given subject. Reading common books doesn’t motivate children to study science, math or history. But, using books with AR content seamlessly solves this problem.  For example, a student revising the syllabus before the exam will have to either make notes or flip pages of the book – a time-consuming process. On the other hand, revising pages using devices that support AR features gives access to additional and useful content. Flipping through digital pages is a lot easier than flipping the pages of a book.

Though AR is still in the infant stage when it comes to education, don’t assume it as just another fad because learning occurs when your children create, interact and explain.  AR is empowering kids to craft their learning worlds, which may be as small as a bacteria and large as the cosmos.
