Robinson: The Autodesk software provides a digital twin of the canal, created by 230 years of data.

Willey: The digital twin is a virtual copy of your canal with all its vital statistics. The 3D laser scanning services software uses waterway sensors and forecast data to predict when flooding might occur, allowing for proper operation on time.

Robinson: Using 3D scanning services technology to make a canal more useful is brilliant. Relying on the data remotely from our project, we’ve been able to access information about what’s happening at the moment and change its functionality for future use by engineers all over Europe.

Willey: The Smart Canal has been such a success that before the project, it would have flooded if there had been rain. Now, the risk is eliminated for this area because of its ability to drain water efficiently and create storage in canals during periods without rainfall or floods.

Robinson: The scheme unlocked the potential of all that development; 3,000 new homes by utilizing a canal and repurposing it. We estimated that this will save 500 tons in carbon per year – so over its lifetime (60 years), we can avoid 3500 metric tons.
