Arrival 3d Laser Scanning

Name - 3D Autodesk Revit model and 2D floor plan development of interior spaces

Arrival 3d Laser Scanning

Location - Oklahoma City, OK

Arrival 3d Laser Scanning

Objective - Develop a 3D model and 2D floor plans illustrating architectural and visible structural elements of an interior space in accordance with design guidelines.

Arrival 3d Laser Scanning

Deliverable - Autodesk Revit (.RVT), 3D DWG model and 2D AutoCAD DWG floor plans.

Arrival 3d Laser Scanning

Result - Autodesk Revit (.RVT), 3D DWG model and 2D AutoCAD DWG floor plans.

Description

The client required an Autodesk Revit model showing the architectural as well as visible structural components at LOD 200 level. Alongside this, 2D floor plans were required, documenting architectural, structural and mechanical equipment located on each floor while excluding piping, conduit, ceiling-mounted features and other MEP distribution elements. This resulted in RVT and 3D DWG formats which were used to generate 2D AutoCAD DWG floor plans for design coordination and future planning.

  • Project Review – Arrival 3D reviewed the project requirements to establish the LOD 200 modeling standards required building elements, modeling exclusions and project deliverables. As per the requirements, we excluded trim, window and door mullions, casework, millwork, cabinetry, railings, furniture and decorative elements.
  • Revit Model Development – After this, we created an Autodesk Revit model with level floors, plumb and straight walls and idealized primary building elements.
  • Drawing Generation & Delivery – After completing the Revit model, it was checked for adherence to the agreed LOD requirement and then exported to 3D DWG format which was used to generate the 2D AutoCAD drawings.
  • Challenges and Solutions – Preserving design intent while controlling the level of detail
  • Solution: Arrival 3D constructed the model according to LOD 200 criteria including only visible architectural and structural elements.

Ensuring consistency between BIM and CAD deliverables

Solution: Arrival 3D provided consistent RVT and DWG files to provide geometrical and documentational consistency among all deliverables.

Results and Benefits

  • Accurate BIM Representation – The created model provided an accurate digital representation of the building architecture and its visible structure enhancing planning and coordination procedures.
  • Improved design coordination – Using the 3D model, architects, engineers and other project stakeholders could reference a single digital reference to manage future renovations and design changes.
  • Standardized 2D Documentation across Platforms – Using AutoCAD DWG, the floor plans showed architectural, structural and mechanical systems on each floor of the building enabling consultants across BIM and CAD platforms to collaborate effectively.
